Can you tell us about your background?

I did a preparatory school before joining ENSICA

The context in which I looked for a job was complex, I first turned down a first job, then after various adventures, including a few months in Australia, I did a thesis in computer vision at the University of La Rochelle in 2013. I then moved to Vietnam, first to an IT outsourcing company, then to my current company, Pixelz, the world leader in image retouching for e-commerce.

Why did you decide to pursue an international career?

It was the chance of life and my upbringing that led me to the international scene, rather than a clear-cut path. I went to Vietnam because my girlfriend was Vietnamese and wanted to go back. It’s also a state of mind. I’ve travelled a lot since I was a child because my family lives all over the world. I didn’t see any particular problem in going to another country. From my point of view, it’s like asking someone from Toulouse why they went to work in Nantes. It’s just a bit further away!

What advice would you give to someone looking for an international career?

In my experience, you need at least five years’ experience or a doctorate to work internationally. Obviously, you’ll need an excellent command of English or the local language.

There are plenty of opportunities in developing countries, where there is sometimes a shortage of highly qualified workers!
