Can you tell us about your background?

I graduated in aerospace engineering from the Bandung Institute of Technology in Indonesia. Driven by my dream of continuing my studies in this field, I found ISAE-SUPAERO the ideal school.

For my end-of-studies placement, I joined Ascendance, a promising Toulouse-based company specialising in hybrid-electric propulsion technology and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft. After my placement, I continued to work at Ascendance as a test engineer, focusing on the VTOL aircraft called ATEA, to prepare it for its first flight. This role introduced me to various engineering teams and deepened my understanding of aircraft development.

I actively contributed to the systems integration bench, from its initial delivery to its deployment. This bench, connected to a real-time simulator, plays a crucial role in product verification and validation. This experience strengthened my expertise in aeronautical systems testing and integration, which in turn fuelled my passion for aerospace innovation.

Why did you decide to pursue an international career?

I grew up in a small village and, at the time, I never envisaged pursuing an international career. However, I was always determined to continue my studies, which led me to obtain a degree in aerospace and aeronautical engineering. As I progressed in this field, my passion for seeking out new challenges and broadening my experiences grew, which eventually led me to decide to pursue an international career.

Beyond my studies, I see an international career as an incredible opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture, adapt to a different system and experience a way of life different from my own. I’m very excited to see how my perspective will evolve and how this journey will shape me as a person. Even now, I think it’s a path worth taking.

What advice would you give to someone looking for an international career? Or one word that would define your career?

In the middle of my undergraduate studies, I started to explore the possibilities open to me for my future. Fortunately, I discovered a scholarship offered by ISAE-SUPAERO for a Masters programme – perfectly aligned with my goals. However, the journey wasn’t easy at first. I understand that everyone comes from different backgrounds and circumstances, which can lead to varied opportunities.

Despite this, it’s essential to stay focused on your goals if they’re really important to you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help: make connections with new people, attend relevant events and seek advice to better understand what you’re looking for. Taking the first step is never easy – it certainly wasn’t for me – but once I started, I couldn’t stop. I ended up finding my way.

For me, ISAE-SUPAERO was a life-changing experience, both personally and professionally!
