The ENAC research laboratory

The air transport system is a system distributed on a global scale, having to carry out missions that are critical to the integrity of users and having to satisfy performance constraints (deadlines, capacity, safety, cost, etc.) involving a wide variety of operators (pilots, air traffic controllers, planning, supervision and maintenance operators, etc.) and players (airlines, air navigation service providers, airports, manufacturers, etc.). As such, it is one of the most complex systems of systems ever designed by human beings.

Controlling the safety of this system while increasing its performance and quality of service, in a context of strong growth in international air traffic, raises a number of scientific challenges affecting the development of air transport, and to which the ENAC research laboratory provides solutions. ENAC is characterised by a unique combination of scientific excellence and technical and operational expertise, as well as experimental resources covering all aspects of air transport.

This unique asset makes it one of the major players in European and international research into air transport systems. Research issues arising from air transport systems often play a precursory role in the emerging needs of complex systems that are increasingly deployed in public spaces (autonomous transport systems, surveillance systems, security control systems, robust and precise geolocation systems, visualisation of complex systems, etc.). This characteristic leads to a broad spectrum of applicability of the results of the research conducted by ENAC.
